The Sewing Machine War isn’t your average domesticated rivalry, despite what images the band name might provoke. According to drummer/lyricist Cory, the band was “born from the fog of high hopes, and grew its legs with a grounded sense of grandeur.” That fog lifted momentarily in 2009 to unveil their self-titled EP.
Since then, TSMW has taken to enhancing their core sound, and have also landed supporting gigs with Future Islands and White Rabbits. Onstage, clattering percussion punches forward as particularly agile guitars compliment Cody’s quavering vocals. The band has been working in the home studio of the revered Kris Poulin – a Chicago-based sound engineer whose recording credits include albums by Jim O’Rourke and Bonnie “Prince” Billy – in an effort to release their debut album.

"Step 1: Build a framework of spacey, jazzy post-rock sounds circa Chicago 1998. Step 2: Fill it out with the breathless emotionalizing of "OC"-era indie crossover acts like Death Cab and Arcade Fire. Step 3: Brood, brainstorm and rejoice. What do you get? What else but Akron's latest underground rock export, The Sewing Machine War." / Columbus Alive
